Back Facial Aftercare: What to Do in the First 48 Hours

By Glow Skin Care | September 14, 2026

If you found me searching for facials near me and you’re booked for a back facial, this is the aftercare I want you following.

Back facial aftercare in the first 48 hours at Glow Skin Care in Santa Rosa

The single most important rule for back facial aftercare is this: keep the skin calm and clean, which means skip sweat, heat, and “active” products for the first 48 hours. I’m big on this because extractions and exfoliation leave your back fresh, but a little vulnerable. And I’ve seen what happens when someone heads straight into a workout or a hot soak. It can undo that smooth, clear finish fast. One of my clients told me we went “so far above and beyond” for her and her sister and that their skin looked better than anywhere they’d been in Northern California. Aftercare is a big part of keeping results like that looking great in real life, not just in the mirror right after you leave.

First 24 to 48 hours: no sweat, no heat, no picking

If you’re wondering what to do after a back facial, keep it simple for two days. Your back facial is 90 minutes of deep cleansing, exfoliation, extractions, and a nourishing mask with hydration. The goal afterward is to protect that clean, open-pore feeling.

Quick rules for the first 48 hours: Avoid heavy sweating, hot showers, baths, saunas, steam rooms, and tight straps that rub the treated area. Let your skin breathe.

In Santa Rosa, late-summer days tend to be warm and dry, and it’s easy to end up sweaty without trying. If you’re doing an outdoor event, winery afternoon, or anything in midday heat, plan your back facial for a different day if you can. If that’s not realistic, at least keep the treated area cool, wear breathable clothing, and rinse off gently if you perspire.

Can you shower after a back facial?

Yes, you can shower, but keep it lukewarm and quick. Use your hands, not a loofah or brush. And don’t aim a strong hot spray directly at the area for a long time. Pat dry with a clean towel and apply a lightweight moisturizer right after.

Days 3 to 7: protect the extractions and keep the routine boring

The first week is where a lot of people accidentally sabotage their “clear and smooth” moment. If you had extractions, you might see mild redness or a few small bumps. That’s usually temporary. What makes it linger is friction, sweat, and overdoing products.

For 3 to 7 days, I generally recommend you skip physical scrubs, chemical exfoliants, retinoids, and acid-based body treatments on the treated area. This is especially important if you’re used to “treating” back breakouts aggressively. Give your skin a few days to settle.

Clothing tip that matters: For 48 hours, keep bras, sports bras, backpacks, and tight shirts from rubbing the treated area. Cotton or moisture-wicking fabric is your friend.

If you commute from Windsor, Rohnert Park, Cotati, Sebastopol, Sonoma, Petaluma, or you’re in and out of Railroad Square and Downtown Santa Rosa a lot, this is the week to think about friction. A tight strap sitting on freshly-extracted pores can set you back. If you have to wear one, put a soft layer between the strap and your skin and change out of sweaty clothing fast.

Post back facial care products: keep it gentle and non-comedogenic

I’m not going to send you home with a 10-step routine. The best post back facial care is usually basic and consistent. Think: clean, moisturize, protect.

Gentle cleanser (fragrance-free if you’re sensitive)

Cleanse twice daily with a mild body wash. Use your hands, rinse well, pat dry. No scrubbing brushes for a few days.

Lightweight moisturizer (non-comedogenic)

A thin layer is enough. You want hydration without a heavy, pore-clogging feel. If you’re acne-prone, keep it simple and avoid scented body butters for the week.

SPF if your back will see sun

If you’re outdoors, apply broad-spectrum SPF to exposed areas. Sun plus recent exfoliation is a quick way to trigger irritation and uneven tone.

Back facial recovery: what’s normal, what’s not, and when I want you to reach out

A little pinkness after extractions can be normal. A couple of tiny bumps can happen too. What I don’t want you doing is picking. That’s how you turn a small, temporary flare into a longer issue.

Reach out if you have redness, swelling, or pain that sticks around past 72 hours. I’d rather hear from you early and help you calm things down.

“What I love most is that the staff really knows skin. They don’t just do a treatment and send you home, they think about what your skin actually needs and build on it over time.”
